Community Projects
Objective
As an educator, I facilitate connection in the virtual and manipulative learning atmospheres. I innovate positive learning environments in which students work in collaboration or alone for artistic problem solving. I am determined to bring enthusiasm and dedication to my position.
MAKE YOUR MARK MURAL CONTEST
Broad Idea, Goal & Intended Outcome: What began as a simple mural contest morphed into a PBL approach to branding, marketing, and culture-building. Select a winning design to implement in hallway & carry over into the Career Center. School-wide design contest with Ms. Murphy serving as the mentor to coach the process and me as the client/co-planner. Designs to be in sketch form, with color not mandatory, but encouraged. Design inspiration is the Logo of the compass and FInd Your True North.

TEACHER'S DIALOGUE PROJECT
The Dialog Project is a collaboration between research students at VCU, The Highland Support Project, Mayan Educators Association, Teachers for Social Justice (Richmond, VA) and the National Art Education Association (VCU chapter). We created an experience for teachers to converse on topics of Social Justice and Education. After introducing ourselves, we discussed, planned, created and implemented 5 cross-curricular lessons.

Mayan Art Program
"THE MAYAN ARTS PROGRAM (MAP) IS ONE OF FIVE AMA PROGRAMS DEVELOPED TO BENEFIT INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND THEIR COMMUNITIES. MAP WAS CONCEIVED WITH A BASIC UNDERSTANDING THAT ART HAS A PURPOSE, ART HAS MEANING, AND ART IS CENTRAL TO ONE'S DAILY WELL-BEING. AN ARTIST IS A CREATOR. IN MANY NATIVE CULTURES CREATION IS NEVER COMPLETE. EVERY DAY IS AN ACTIVE EXPRESSION OF CREATION AND EACH ACT WE PERFORM CONTINUES THE PROCESS OF CREATION. THIS SHOULD INCLUDE NEW LIFE OR POSSIBILITIES. IN THIS SENSE, ART + EDUCATION = AGENCY."
